Reflection

What do we want to do?

In our original rewritten story, we used a third person-view to tell the story. Although it could tell the whole story objectively, the character and psychological depiction of the characters in the story were not obvious and specific enough. The reader cannot know the mental journeys of different characters, and hard to understand the choice made by the main character in different situations. As a result, readers were difficult to empathize with the protagonists.

Therefore, we changed the narrative structure of the whole story to make the whole storyline more concrete. We hope it can help readers understand the story from different perspectives and better understand the protagonist’s mental journey and their choices in different story’s turning points. Also, we want to bring a more interesting reading experience to the reader.

Different Perspectives

We chose the top ten important scenes of the story and described them from a different perspectives. We divided these scenes into two main characters’ points of view. First, Wong would talk about Yee and her first and second meetings from her point of view. Also, how she doubts Yee, why she decides to give Yee one more chance and how Yee killed her.

On the other hand, Yee would talk about the purpose of approaching Ms Wong and how to get Ms Wong to take the initiative to notice him from his point of view.  Also, express his inner struggle when he and his companions devised an assassination plan to assassinate Ms Wong and how he finally felt when he killed Ms Wong. None of these mental journeys was mentioned in the original rewritten story.

Moreover, we added more conversation between different characters to help the story plot and atmosphere become more specific. It was easier for readers to imagine and get involved in the story scene.

Different Tone

Besides, Ms Wong and Yee’s tones were totally different from each other when they were sharing their story from their point of view. Ms Wong was like talking to the Yee. She did not mention Yee’s name in her part but called Yee as you. She was telling Yee how she felt and what she did behind him. However, from Yee’s perspective, he called Ms Wong as Ms Wong. It’s seeming that he was sharing his feeling in the third person, and the tone felt more rational. Therefore, the audience could read this story from a diverse perspective.

Different Reading Experiences

Furthermore, readers can see what happened and the story’s outcome from the point of view of one character they chose. Or combine the perspectives of two characters and follow the timeline to see the content of the whole story. If readers combine the perspectives of two characters with seeing the whole story, they could have another reading experience as they may find that the two main characters have conflicting views on the same thing. For example, in the last part of the story, in Yee’s view, he thought that Ms Wong hugged him tightly, and her eye sockets gradually turned red as an action to show her love for him. But in Wong’s view, she actually wanted to leave, but she could not move as Yee hugged her tightly.
